Family Memories
Posted on July 02, 2008
On a very personal note, about three weeks before we left for TNNA, our beloved Miniature Schnauzer, Smokey, was diagnosed with canine lymphoma. We took him to Santa Fe before Memorial Day to the Oncologist to get a better diagnosis and to see what treatment she would recommend. Well, for any of you who have ever gone through this, you know chemotherapy is quite expensive--around $6-7,000--with an average life-after-diagnosis of about 1 year. Wow! Kind of bleak. The oncologist felt like Smokey had the more aggressive form of lymphoma since he had not responded well to the medication he had been given. After some consideration for his quality of life, we determined that we would not put him through the pain and agony of chemo. We kept him on his medication regiment, gave him lots and love and attention, and prepared ourselves for what was to come. Our wonderful Smokey was brave and never seemed to complain, continued to play with our two other schnauzers and Bernese Mountain dog mix. We even had time after TNNA to get our family portrait made to always remember our first schnauzer. We lost our little Smokey on June 19. He was 11 years old.![]() Brad with Smokey and Wrigley, Jeannie with Sadie and Shelbie.
How Time Flies!
Posted on June 30, 2008
You know the saying, "Time flies when you're having fun!" Well, I guess I must be having lots of fun as my last posting was a month ago. Yikes! Since we saw the Stitches group at Village Wools, Brad and I ran around getting everything finalized for TNNA. The last of the 11 crates shipped out on June 2 to arrive just in time to unpack them and get everything set up. The booth always takes longer than I think, partly because our booth is so big, but mainly because I like to change it up every time so it looks new and fresh as stores walk by. And the show was great! Our new yarn Flurry was a huge hit (it will be up on the site very soon). Flurry is a silk, wool, mohair combination, light as a feather, warm as a cozy blanket and so soft that you just can't stop touching it. It has become one of my favorites! It knits on bigger needles, size 10, so you can knit up a beautiful sweater or shawl in no time at all. My dear friend and wonderful designer, Melissa Leapman, designed two amazing sweaters in Flurry. We also introduced four new colorways: Innocence, Devotion, Cloud 9, and Blue Moon. I think my personal favorite is Blue Moon but most stores loved Devotion. I'll post to let you know when these are available to view on the website.
Trunk Show at Village Wools
Posted on May 22, 2008
The Stitches retreat landed in Albuquerque last week before heading North to Santa Fe for several fun-filled days of knitting. Village Wools was their first stop to shop the huge selection of yarn and meet the entire crew. And we did an in-person Trunk Show just for the Stitches group. Brad and I along with our Marketing Manager, Sela, showed our yarns and patterns. The two hour event was great! We don't get a lot of opportunity to meet with knitters to hear what they like to knit with and what makes them buy Fiesta Yarns. We are always excited to hear feedback and by far the most common response to our wall of Fiesta Yarns was that our colors are so wonderful. That really makes me happy because that is one thing I spend hours on. I read the latest color trend guides, get out my color forecasting guides and look at magazines and advertising to see what things seem to be hot. This is without a doubt my favorite thing to do!
